The following DHCP-over-IPsec HOWTO explains in detail the installation and configuration of the DHCP server, the DHCP relay and the Linux FreeS/WAN IPsec stack including the X.509 patch required to set up the DHCPv4 over IPsec tunnel mode that allows a VPN client to get a lease for a Virtual IP address in a secure way from a DHCP server situated behind a VPN gateway of the home network.
